Romantic Pre Wedding Shoot in Udaipur: Why It’s India’s Most Romantic City

We’ve photographed pre-wedding sessions in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and across Rajasthan. But when couples ask us where a truly romantic pre-wedding shoot belongs, we always bring them back to Udaipur.

No other city in India offers what Udaipur does: the quiet drama of lake reflections at sunrise, centuries-old palace courtyards glowing in the afternoon, narrow blue-lit lanes that feel entirely private, and a landscape that shifts mood with the light — warm and golden one hour, moody and atmospheric the next.

Over 500 pre-wedding sessions have taught us exactly which corners of this city make couples look extraordinary on camera — and in this guide, we’re sharing everything we know.

“Udaipur doesn’t just give you a backdrop. It gives you an atmosphere. And atmosphere is what separates a romantic photograph from a beautiful one.”

The 8 Most Romantic Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Udaipur

Every location below has been personally scouted, tested across different seasons, and used in real couple sessions. We note the best time to shoot each one and what makes it uniquely romantic — not what a travel blog might say, but what we’ve actually seen through a lens.

1
🌅

Lake Pichola — The Crown of Udaipur

Nothing else comes close. The still morning water doubles every frame with a perfect reflection, and the silhouette of Jag Mandir rising behind a couple at sunrise is one of the most naturally cinematic shots we regularly produce. Boat sessions add movement and intimacy. The light from 6:30–8:00 AM here is extraordinary — soft, directional, and consistently warm.

Best for: Sunrise boat session
Ideal time: 6:30–8:00 AM
Vibe: Majestic & deeply romantic

2
🏛️

Jag Mandir Island Palace

Arriving by boat to this 17th-century island palace is itself a cinematic moment. The marble pavilions, the Elephant Row, and the open terraces overlooking the lake create a setting that looks like a film set — but is entirely real. Perfect for couples who want a grand, regal quality in their images without leaving the lakeside.

Best for: Heritage & grandeur
Ideal time: Early morning or late afternoon
Permit: Required — we handle this

3
🌇

Sajjangarh Monsoon Palace

Perched 944 metres above sea level on Bansdara Hill, Sajjangarh offers panoramic views of Udaipur that look almost unreal in photographs. The drive up through the wildlife sanctuary also gives incredible forested road portrait opportunities. We schedule this one 45 minutes before sunset — the sky turns multiple shades of amber and rose, and no filter is needed.

Best for: Dramatic sunset portraits
Ideal time: 45 min before sunset
Vibe: Epic & panoramic

4
🏮

Bagore Ki Haveli Ghats

Our top recommendation for couples who want something intimate and authentic rather than grand. The old haveli’s steps descend directly to the lake; the surrounding lanes are narrow, lantern-lit, and largely free of crowds in the early hours. This is where we capture Udaipur’s soul — and some of our most emotionally charged images come from right here.

Best for: Candid & storytelling style
Ideal time: Early morning or evening
Vibe: Intimate & Old-City authentic

5
🌿

Shilpgram Craft Village

Terracotta textures, indigo-painted mud walls, folk art murals, and vibrant Rajasthani colour everywhere — Shilpgram gives pre-wedding photographs a completely distinct palette from anywhere else in the city. Ideal for couples who want something visually bold and culturally rich rather than the conventional palace backdrop.

Best for: Vibrant, editorial look
Ideal time: Morning (before crowds)
Vibe: Colourful & folk-art inspired

6
🏞️

Fateh Sagar Lake Promenade

More relaxed and open than Pichola, Fateh Sagar’s wide promenade and the scenic Nehru Island backdrop make for a cheerful, breezy setting. Perfect as a second location to contrast a more dramatic palace shoot. The late afternoon light here is playful rather than dramatic — which suits couples who want variety in their final gallery.

Best for: Relaxed couple moments
Ideal time: Late afternoon
Vibe: Light, easy & playful

7
🌺

Saheliyon Ki Bari Garden

Udaipur’s historic royal garden — built for the queen’s companions — is a study in symmetry, water fountains, and lush greenery. It photographs beautifully in the soft morning light and is particularly stunning during spring when the flowers are in full bloom. For couples who want a softer, garden-romance aesthetic.

Best for: Garden romance, soft light
Ideal time: Morning, Oct–March
Vibe: Lush, symmetrical, royal garden

8
🏰

City Palace Exterior Ghats & Courtyards

The City Palace’s outer courtyards, arched gateways, and ghat steps offer incredible architectural framing — columns, archways, and stone corridors that frame a couple naturally. The play of filtered light through Rajput architecture between 7–9 AM gives portraits a timeless, editorial quality we return to again and again.

Best for: Architectural framing
Ideal time: 7:00–9:00 AM
Vibe: Regal, heritage, timeless

WedClick’s most-booked combination: Lake Pichola sunrise boat session (6:30–8:30 AM) + Sajjangarh at sunset (5:30–7:00 PM). Two completely different moods, two stunning light qualities, one unforgettable gallery. Many couples add Bagore Ki Haveli lanes as a short middle session.

Best Time for a Romantic Pre-Wedding Shoot in Udaipur

Season: October to February Is Ideal

From 500+ shoots across all seasons, October to February is consistently the strongest window. The air is clear, temperatures are comfortable (18–26°C), the lakes are beautifully full after the monsoon, and the quality of natural light during this period is consistently warm and directional. If you can only choose one window, this is it.

March & Early April: Still Excellent

March and early April remain very good — temperatures are beginning to rise but mornings and evenings are still beautiful. Many of our most visually dramatic portfolio images were shot in this transitional season, where the sky takes on a richer, more saturated quality at golden hour.

SeasonTemperaturesLight QualityOur Verdict
Oct – Feb18–26°C✓ Outstanding✓ Best overall
Mar – Apr24–34°C✓ Very good (mornings)✓ Recommended
May – Jun35–42°C◦ Harsh midday◦ Early AM only

What to Wear: Outfit Guide for Udaipur Pre-Wedding Shoots

After 500+ sessions, we’ve seen what works and what doesn’t. Here’s our practical guide — tailored specifically to Udaipur’s locations and light:

Look 1 — Ethnic

Traditional & Grand

A rich lehenga paired with a sherwani. Ideal for palace locations — Jag Mandir, City Palace, Sajjangarh. The heavier the embroidery, the better against stone and marble.

Navy
Burgundy
Emerald
Rust
Look 2 — Casual / Western

Natural & Relaxed

A flowy dress or co-ord for her, linen trousers and an open shirt for him. Perfect for lakeside, garden, and candid lane sessions. Keeps the mood light and spontaneous.

Ivory
Peach
Soft Teal
Lavender

What to avoid: Neon, heavy geometric prints, or colours that match the background too closely (avoid green at Saheliyon Ki Bari, avoid blue at the lake). White can work but tends to blow out in bright morning light — opt for ivory or cream instead. We always do a pre-shoot style consultation with our couples to review outfit choices against confirmed locations.

7 Tips from Our Photographers for a Truly Romantic Shoot

01
Arrive at the location before the light, not after. The golden hour waits for no one. We always position couples and set up 15 minutes before the light peaks — that first half-hour of sunrise or the final 40 minutes before sunset is where the magic lives.
02
Forget the camera is there. The couples whose images look the most naturally romantic are the ones who stop thinking about posing. We’ll talk to you, crack jokes, give you activities — your job is to be present with each other, not perform for the lens.
03
Plan two locations, not five. A common mistake is trying to cover too many spots in one day. Two locations done well — with enough time to explore, settle in, and catch the right light — will always produce better images than five locations rushed.
04
Book 4–6 weeks in advance, especially for Oct–Feb slots. Our calendar fills quickly during peak season. If you have a specific anniversary or occasion date in mind, don’t wait — reach out early and we’ll block your preferred dates.
05
Do a hair and makeup trial before the shoot day. Not for perfection — for confidence. Couples who’ve rehearsed their look feel more relaxed on the day, and that ease shows in every frame. Even a 30-minute trial makes a real difference.
06
Bring a personal touch — but keep it simple. A single prop with genuine meaning (a letter, a flower from the local market, a book you both love) adds more emotional resonance than a suitcase of accessories. We’ll help you decide if you’re unsure.
07
Trust the post-processing. Udaipur’s landscapes edit beautifully — the warmth of the stone, the blues of the lake, the golden sky. Our editing style preserves natural tones and enhances mood without over-processing. The final images will look like Udaipur, not a filter.

Real Couple Story

We were nervous about doing a pre-wedding shoot — neither of us are comfortable in front of a camera. But the WedClick team made it feel so natural. They took us out on a boat at Lake Pichola before sunrise, and by the time the sun came up, we had completely forgotten we were being photographed. When we saw the images, we couldn’t believe it was us. These are the photos we’ll show our children one day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Lake Pichola at sunrise is our top recommendation — still water reflections, the silhouette of Jag Mandir, and the golden morning light create a naturally cinematic backdrop no studio can replicate. Sajjangarh at sunset is our second favourite for drama and panoramic views.

Most romantic pre-wedding sessions run 3–5 hours, covering 2–3 locations with 2 outfit changes. Full-day sessions (6–8 hours, 4–5 locations) are popular for destination couples who want a comprehensive gallery from their Udaipur trip.

We recommend two looks: one ethnic (lehenga + sherwani or saree + kurta) and one casual or western. For ethnic outfits, jewel tones — navy, burgundy, emerald, rust — look stunning against palaces and lakes. We do a style consultation before every shoot to finalise outfit choices against your confirmed locations.

Our pre-wedding photography packages begin at ₹12,000 and vary based on session length, number of locations, and deliverables. We customise every package. Visit our Get a Quote page or WhatsApp us for a tailored estimate.

Yes, absolutely. Many of our pre-wedding clients travel from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and even internationally. We coordinate shoot timing around your arrival and departure, advise on the best 1–2 day shoot itinerary, and handle all location permits — so the shoot fits seamlessly into your trip.
